Cabinet refinishing is not cabinet painting. Painting means rolling or brushing a topcoat over whatever is already there. Refinishing means stripping the existing finish, degreasing the substrate, sanding to bare wood or a proper bonding profile, priming, and spraying a factory-quality topcoat with an HVLP system. The result looks like it came off a production line — because the process is the same one production lines use.

A full kitchen refinish in San Diego runs $65–$95 per linear foot and takes two to three days. Replacement of the same cabinets runs $400–$1,200 per linear foot and takes four to eight weeks. The math is not close. For structurally sound box cabinets with solid doors, refinishing is almost always the right call.

We do not refinish every cabinet we are asked about. Particleboard that has swollen from water damage, delaminating thermofoil doors, or boxes where the joints are failing — those are replacement jobs. We will tell you that on the estimate call rather than take the work and deliver a result that fails in two years.

Most San Diego kitchen refinishes are completed within one week from estimate to final walkthrough. We match colors to Benjamin Moore, Sherwin-Williams, and Dunn-Edwards fan decks, or we can sample-match an existing color anywhere in the home.
